Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) launched the Fiat 500 ‘la Prima’ electric convertible earlier in March and now they’ve taken the sheets off of the new 500 ‘la Prima’ hatchback.
If you haven’t already picked up the trend of new cars being launched this year they’re all either electric or have suffered from mild hybridisation. In this little Fiat’s case the car has an electric powertrain.
The electric motor has an output of 87kW (117 horsepower) with a top speed of 150 km/h and 0-100km/h sprint time of just 9 seconds – not bad!
The lithium ion batteries have a capacity of 42kWh enabling the 500 have a range of 320 kilometres. In five minutes the 500 can charge to travel 48 kilometres and if you use a fast charger it only takes 35 minutes to charge the battery to 80 percent.
The new 500 also benefits from FCA’s updated UConnect 5 infotainment system which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and can also be used in wireless mode. Since the UConnect 5 can be used both inside and outside the car, the driver can set the navigation in advance and pre-condition the climate control – which is the best feature a car can have!
You know, I was very surprised when I heard this news. Not at Fiat or anything. I was surprised at how excited I got when I heard about it. I think I found my dream car.
